The Italian Port of Venice, has approved plans for the design and construction of a small vessel for the transport of LNG.

The Port of Venice, which plans to build 32,000 cubic metre (cbm) of LNG storage over the next four years, say the project involves the Italian Ports Authority (AdSPMAS) and Rimorchiatori Riuniti Panfido & C Srl for the design and construction of the vessel.

The funds, an allocation of 11.7 million euros, had been formerly approved by the European Union in 2015 as part of the Poseidon Med II project, which involved Rimorchiatori Riuniti Panfido and the Venice Port, for the construction of a prototype “Mama Vessel” with a draft of 4.4 meters, compatible with the lagoon environment, based on an original naval design of the British company Bmt-Titron.
